I recently wanted to buy a baby carrier for my daughter, I did a search on Google to look at some of the types and features of baby carriers.
I did find one that I liked and it was available locally. But for the next few days that I used the internet and social media, my feed was filled with ads of baby carriers.
From Facebook to Instagram, Blogs, and more. This has probably happened many times to you; whenever you are interested in a product, you begin to see more of it on social media and ad placements on blogs.
It got me thinking; Google, Meta, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and many other platforms are so interested in tracking my data and it makes them billions of dollars, why can’t I be interested in tracking my own data?
For the first half of the year, I did not know my Blood group, height, weight, monthly spending, monthly income, monthly savings, total debts, number of books I had read, how much I spent on airtime in the last 3 months, my net worth, my total investment, and more?
This made it hard to know in what areas of my life I must focus on to make progress, or what type of expenses I must reduce to be financially healthy. I couldn’t even know whether I was losing or gaining weight, which is important to keep my health in check.
So, I decided that from July forward, I would start tracking my data and make some of the decisions based on that data. This has been life-changing. I am able to consistently save and invest for the first time in my life.
I have been able to notice patterns and trends in my finances and habits that I was not aware of before.
For example, I noticed that when I have tasks to Make a Video and Write a blog post on the same day, I am likely to do only one of the two or none at all.
So, from this data, I decided that I would not pair these two on the same day, and that worked out amazingly.
Data is king, that is why there is a huge demand for Data Analysts and Data Analytics platforms. Data does not only benefit big businesses; it is also important for personal growth.
Being able to look at your own data and identify trends and patterns is a huge opportunity for personal development.
Make a spreadsheet in Excel or Google Sheets and note down all the metrics about you that you are interested in tracking. Begin to track them on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
When you do this, you will begin to see trends in your life that you have never noticed before.
