The Power of Side Projects
You may just be sitting on your biggest potential | Some big things start as a side project
Hi Friends
This weekend, I wanted to share a few insights that I learned from working on various side projects. I am working on building software, blogging, a YouTube Channel, and building this newsletter.
Whether you are a student or a full-time employee, embracing a side project can transform your life forever.
Even if you are very busy with work or studies, you can set aside just 30 minutes to 1 hour everyday working on your side projects. You will be amazed with the results.
Whether you're seeking inspiration, a financial boost, or simply a creative endeavor, the power of side projects is boundless.
Here are 3 ways in which side projects can transform your life.
FINANCIAL TRANSFORMATION
What if your side project could turn into a lucrative venture? Many success stories start with a small idea pursued passionately.
From Etsy shops to YouTube channels, blogs, one persona SaaS, etc. side projects have the potential to generate additional income, supplementing your main source of revenue, or even evolving into a full-fledged business.
Some of the popular apps at companies like Google started as side projects of employees.
Even big companies like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and many others started as side projects.
Steve Jobs was working at Atari while building the Apple I as a side project.
I recently wrote about Florin Pop whose side project became his full-time business, Kat Norton who quit her job to focus on her side project – Miss Excel, and Josh Ellwood who has 7 side projects that allowed him to quit his job.
Your side project could become your financial game-changer.
I work as a digital marketer, but I have side projects building software, blogging, growing this newsletter, and growing my YouTube channel.
These have helped me to develop my skills and bring in extra income.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH
Side projects are more than just passion projects; they're skill-building opportunities.
The new skills you acquire from building your side projects – whether it's coding, sales, marketing, communication, or graphic design – can enhance your professional toolkit.
This continuous learning process not only boosts your confidence but also opens doors to new career opportunities. The skills you develop could be the key to unlocking new doors in your career.
From my side projects, I have been able to learn skills such as Video Editing, SEO, Spreadsheets, Graphics Design, and I am learning Sales and Marketing at the moment.
NETWORKING AND COMMUNITY BUILDING
Your side project is a gateway to connecting with like-minded individuals. Whether it's collaborating with others or building a community around your project, the relationships you form can be invaluable.
Networking through your side project can lead to unexpected opportunities and collaborations. Engage with communities related to your side project, both online and offline.
You never know who you might meet and how they could contribute to your journey.
Remember, the power of side projects lies not just in the end result but in the journey itself.
So, take that first step, embrace the unknown, and let your side project be the catalyst for positive change.
