Hi Friends
Happy Monday
I have been trying to build my habits recently around goals that can improve my life. I even made a habit tracker in Google Sheets to help me achieve this.
Once habits have formed (whether good or bad), it is hard to break them. This means that if you build your habits around productive things, you will make progress easily.
In the book Atomic Habits by James Clear, he talks about building good habits by reducing friction and breaking bad habits by increasing friction.
For example, if the first thing you want to do when you wake up is to read one chapter of a book, you need to make sure that you put your book beside your bed so that you can easily pick it up when you wake up.
Similarly, if you do not want to check social media as soon as you wake up, make sure you put your phone far away, or in the other room, this way, you are more likely to get a book and read than go into the next room to get your phone.
Sometimes, it is very easy to sit on the couch and watch Netflix when you are suppose to study, but if you put the remote far away, it may reduce the chance of idly watching TV.
Just make sure that all the things you need to build good habits are easily accessible and that all the things need to build bad habits are not easily accessible.
Using this approach to break and build habits and routines has helped me to easily focus on building my skills and building projects with platforms like Excel, Google Sheets, Python, and Power BI.
OPPORTUNITIES
I have been learning Excel and Google Sheets as part of my path to becoming a data analyst. Excel and Google Sheets are required technical skills for any data analyst.
I also want to learn Excel and Google Sheets so well that I can teach them to others easily and efficiently.
I learned recently that when you have a specific goal for learning something, it becomes easy to learn and you will be able to see opportunities around what you are learning.
Are you learning, Excel, SQL, Python, Google Sheets, R, or Power BI? Have you stopped for a moment to ask why you are learning any of these technologies?
Is it to get a job? Teach others? Get a Promotion? Or perhaps for prestige? Sheer fun may be? Or because everyone is talking about it?
Let me know in the comments or reply why you are learning any of these technologies or if there is something you are learning.
I say that because, once you understand why you are learning something, you will be able to see opportunities where others can’t see them.
